Kwara fixes Oct 5 as resumption date. Public and private schools in Kwara State are to resume classes from Monday, October 5, 2020.

This was revealed in a statement signed by Mrs Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin, the state Commissioner for Communication.

The statement reads:

“With various training held for teachers on how to protect themselves and students from the COVID-19 infection, improved manpower in monitoring and case tracings, and appreciable guarantee of some protection for the children, the government hereby directs the reopening of elementary schools from October 5.

Kwara Tertiary Institutions to resume October 12

“Similarly, state-owned tertiary institutions are to reopen from October 12 or as may be determined by their respective governance structures.

“COVID-19 is still with us. The government, therefore, urges school authorities to ensure that all safety protocols are adhered to, including physical distance, use of face masks, and constant washing of hands with soap and water, in order to flatten the curve of transmission of the virus. The government similarly wishes our students and teacher a safe stay in school while promising to continue to do its best to keep the citizens safe at all times. Schools with scanty regards for safety protocols risk being shut.”

Schools had been ordered to shut down since March 23 following the outbreak of the virus.

Rivers Schools To reopen October 5

 Rivers State Executive Council approves the reopening of Schools in the State.

Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku made the disclosure to newsmen after an emergency SEC meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Prof. Ebeku says the Council approves the reopening of school on October 5, 2020.

According to him, “The SEC approved the reopening of all Secondary Schools, Vocational schools and Tertiary Schools.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the council based on medical advice, did not approve the reopening of Primary Schools in the state which would await a new date in the future.

“Furthermore, the Executive council approved the setting up of a 7-man Taskforce to monitor compliance of the COVID-19 protocol in all the schools.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim stresses that bars and clubs remains shut in the State.
